Decoupling Capacitor

100uF electrolytic - power supply

A decoupling capacitor sits across a power rail to absorb sudden current spikes.

When the PAM8403 plays a loud sound it draws a burst of current from the 5V line. Without this cap, that spike causes a tiny voltage drop which comes out as hiss or noise through the speaker. The cap provides instant local current, keeping the supply stable.

Key details

  • Value: 100uF electrolytic
  • Polarity matters - + leg to PAM8403 VCC
  • - leg to GND
  • Mount as close to the PAM8403 as possible
  • Smooths power-supply noise from audio bursts
